Why Do Gentleman Suffer In Silence…

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the importance of mental well-being for men around the world.

Statistics paint a concerning picture when it comes to men. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), men are less likely to seek help for mental health issues compared to women.

This reluctance in men tends to lead into alcohol or drug use as a coping mechanism with many men underreporting their true feelings.

Instead of expressing sadness, men might display irritability, anger, or shut down responses that close off from others.

With the most alarming being that globally, men are nearly twice as likely to die by suicide compared to women. We need to encourage men to chat, remove the bravado, shame and embarrassment that is felt around not being ok.

As a therapist, I am committed to supporting the mental health of male expats living in Dubai, and to mark this month, I am offering a special discount on my services.

Dubai’s shining lights make it feel uncomfortable to admit we are not ok. We made it to the big city and should be happy, right?

Adapting to a new culture when away from home can be overwhelming and can create feelings of isolation and stress.

Its fast-paced work environment with high expectations and long working hours can lead to burnout, exhaustion and anxiety.

And the most significant one, the feeling of loneliness whether in a relationship or not. We can feel lonely in a room full of people. Being far from family and friends amplifies everyday stressors and can make it difficult to cope, contributing to feelings of loneliness, anxious tendencies, or depressive thoughts or behaviours.

If your tired, struggling or just want to try and be better than you were yesterday, it’s time to invest in yourself.

I know first steps with therapy can sometimes be daunting which is why I provide a free 20 minute discovery call where we can chat and discuss things further.

In recognition of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, I am offering a 10% discount on self-investment packages for male expats in Dubai purchased in June and July 2024.
