Its that time of year when many 6th Form teens are leaving home to pursue their first year at University or first jobs and questions around romantic relationships need answering.
Listen from 25:30 minutes.
In a region where sex education is hard to find, uncomfortable or inappropriate challenges arise when discussing intimacy and romantic relationships with parents or teachers, 6th form teens or adolescents can struggle to have the safe, informed and confidential space to explore hormones, feelings, first loves and heart breaks.
When teens feel awkward speaking to either parents or teachers, they turn to their friends. Who lets face it, are probably lying about what they know, or providing advice based on movies or TV. So not helpful either.
As a relationship therapist, couples therapist, psychologist and coach I provide a safe confidential adult space which can support teens through thoughts, feelings, behaviours, questions and education as they transition into adulthood and university life. Many parents want to provide this, but they know deep down, these conversations are as uncomfortable for them, as they are for their teen!
Listen again to my feature on the Helen Farmer Show Dubai Eye 103.8 from 25:30 minutes where I discuss how teen relationships, first loves, first heartbreaks and challenges faced with relationships when leaving home for the first year of University.
Whether you want to use the term psychologist, psychotherapist or coach, whichever makes you feel more comfortable in helping to tackle the relationship with yourself and others I am an online relationship therapist which can help you understand behaviours which may be effecting your marriage, relationship or dating habits.
